The idea of the boutique greeting card company 3 Red Stars is to showcase Australian photographers passionate about their art, and to create a special collectable home-grown product.

Behind the concept is Australian photographer John de Lombardo, well known worldwide for his images of flexible bodies called the Artflex Project.  “The inspiration for setting up 3 Red Stars was the $1 card stands plonked outside many shops throughout major towns and cities,” says John. “The message I received was loud and clear: cheap cards from cheap friends.  Our philosophy at 3 Red Stars is when you give someone a special card you have thought about them, and the card also becomes a gift.”

The 3 Red Stars collection to be launched in October 2009 may be small but the images are strong. The collection offers many different genres from stylised fashion images, tongue in cheek humour, the capturing of a special event, stunning portraits, a touch of Australiana, a splash of the surreal and the mysterious. The standard has been set and the collection will blossom as the word spreads.

For protection the greeting cards are packaged in clear cellophane; a short story accompanies most images and will be included as an insert with the cards. The stories can also be read online when browsing the images. The greeting cards have a blank inner page for givers to supply their own special message.

“By purchasing our cards you are investing in an Australian business that supports creative photo artists, and will endeavour to seek established and emerging local talent,” says John.
